In order to apply for a Working Visa (“EU Blue Card”), you need to submit the following documents:
- Two completed and signed application forms. Please ensure that a high quality printout of the barcode is submitted with the application.
Three recent biometric passport photos (not older than six months), 2 glued to the application forms and 1 attached with a paper clip
Passport, issued within the last 10 years - valid for at least one more year from the intended date of entry into Germany, with at least 2 empty pages + 2 photocopies of the data page
Maltese residence card, valid for at least three months + 2 photocopies
Last three pay slips from your current employer in Malta + 2 photocopies
Work contract, signed by you and your future employer + 2 photocopies
There is a minimum salary requirement for the EU Blue Card which is set once a year by the Federal Ministry of the Interior. In 2021, the minimum salary requirements were:
a) 44,304 € for scientists, mathematicians, engineers, doctors and IT specialists (so-called STEM occupations) and
b) 56,800 € for all other occupations
- Extract from the commercial register of your future employer (Handelsregisterauszug) + 2 photocopies
- Employment declaration to be filled in by your future employer + 2 photocopies
Certificates of your qualifications + 2 photocopies
Proof of recognition of your qualification:
a) Two printouts from the anabin database on the qualification and two printouts on the Institution or
b) if the qualification is not assessed as “entspricht” (comparable) or “gleichwertig” (equivilant) and/or the institution is not classified as “H+: Statement of Comparability by the Central Office of Foreign Education (ZAB) + 2 photocopies

Travel health insurance policy for 14 days from the intended date of entry into Germany (the policy can be presented later – latest on the day the visa is issued) + 1 photocopy
Visa fee: EUR 75.00
Certificates, diplomas, etc. must be presented in the original with apostille/legalisation. Your original documents will be returned to you once your application has been processed.
The visa must, where applicable, be approved by the Federal Employment Agency and the competent foreigners authority. The visa can only be issued when these approvals have been received.
